The Author was born in Guyana, studied at Grant Medical College, Bombay, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. After leaving England he spent some time as a Lecturer in Surgery at the University of the West Indies and as a consultant General Surgeon at the University Hospital, Jamaica. Here he was involved in fundamental research and wrote several Scientific Papers. During this time, he developed a new technique for the repair of inguinal hernias.

In the early seventies he and his wife, a Gynecologist, moved permanently to the United States. On her passing, he dedicated the marble Temple, “Anila Vijay Poonai Tirth” and in addition, “The Parmanand Vijay and Anila Poonai Institute of Jainology” of the Jain Society of Central Florida, Altamonte Springs, to her.

The Author who has travelled extensively in the past, now lives a quiet life with his family and friends.
